Dorm Bathrooms Q&A's

Where do I store my toiletries during the day/when I'm not using them?
You store them in your room. You carry your toiletries back and forth to the bathroom with you.

Is there any place I can put my toothbrush and toothpaste while I am in the bathroom?
There is a shelf attached to the mirror. (See above photo) If you live in a nicer dorm, you might have countertops instead of the mirror shelves.

How many showers are there in a bathroom?
In the dorms I've been in, there are 4 shower stalls and maybe 1 bath tub. No one ever uses the bath tub though for bathing.

Do you have to wait to take a shower?
I've never had to wait for a shower. Four showers don't seem like a lot, but my floor had
~35 girls on it, and we never really took showers at the same time. Morning and night time is usually the busiest. I rarely see all four showers being used at the same time. If the showers are all used, you can always go to another floor's bathroom.

Do I undress in the shower stall? How does this whole undressing thing work?
Some dorms have changing stalls attached directly to the shower and others do not. If you happen to live in a dorm that does not have changing stalls, it's really up to you. Some people undress in their rooms, wrap a towel around their body, then walk with their shower caddy to the bathroom. Others will undress in the shower stall. And some other people choose to undress in a toilet stall, wrap their towel around their body, then walk to a shower. The most common "technique" is undressing in your room first.

How does a sample dorm bathroom look like?
Here, I posted a photo tour. Check it out!

Are the bathrooms clean?
Over the weekends, it can get gross (toilet paper on the ground, trash can overflowing). There is usually cleaning every weekday.

Is there hair in the shower?
Yes. Sometimes people don't pick up their hair from the drain.

How is the water pressure in the showers?
It varies on where you live. For example, Prince Frederick has poor water pressure, but LaPlata has pretty good water pressure.

Is the shower water hot/warm?
I think this depends on where you live. Prince Frederick has warm water (not particularly hot), but LaPlata showers achieve a nice, hot temperature.

How are the toilets like?
Stalls are what you would expect, really. The toilets are probably automatic. Some toilets have a press down for solid waste and push up for liquid waste option.

Do the showers get  backed up?
Sometimes. You can tell your RA or call 4-work. If you're in the middle of showering and the water starts baking out of the drain, just wrap yourself in your towel and change shower stalls.

I want more privacy. Are there bathrooms/toilets for just one person?
There may be a handicapped bathroom in the lobby or basement of your dorm building.

What is an unexpected perk of sharing a bathroom?
Meeting people on your floor, easy way to catch up with floormates, shower conversations, etc.

Cons of sharing a bathroom?
I guess the most obvious one is the odor that's sometimes present. Thankfully, I haven't seen leftover puke clogging a bathroom sink yet.

Overall, how would you describe it?
Not the bathroom of a five star hotel, but it does its job!

Still nervous about the bathroom situation?
Once you get on campus, you will get used to it. It might take a few days, but you'll be fine.

  1. Definitely believe that which you said. Your favourite reason seemed to be on the internet the simplest factor to consider of. I say to you, I definitely get irked at the same time as other people think about issues that they just don’t recognise about. You managed to hit the nail upon the top well defined out the entire thing without having side effect , other folks could take a signal. Will probably be again to get more. Thank you!
